Can a car run if it had internal engine damage?

If the car was still driveing when you decited to replace the gaskets then the pistons and everything is fine. The only thing that really gets messed up when the head gasket goes out is the head can crack or wharp. take the heads to a machine shop and get them pressure checked and you willl be fine
