In a World so full of cruel con artist and charlatans …..?

Ideally children will be taught by those that raise them to do that for themselves as they grow up. Should this not be the case then we can only hope they get lucky since just about everyone who offers to protect them from con artists and charlatans will be either a con artist or a charlatan. I've long thought that a real danger in modern society is that people have increasingly brought to believe that it is other people's responsibility to protect them from the consequences of their decisions and actions. Society has no responsibility to protect us from ourselves, only to ensure a fair and level playing field where all may compete equally and fairly.
