Religion does not unite?
One of my favorite songs is "Imagine" by John Lennon. His point is very simple however I don't think we'll ever see the day that it happens. Who, what, and when was it decided what the "right" religion is? Christians hate Jews hate Muslims hate Buddhists and on and on. Christians believe that Jews are the chosen people... so why don't they convert to Judaism? I spoke with one Jewish guy who said Jesus Christ doesn't mean squat to him. And of course the Muslims who don't like Jews or Christians, And before I get accused of stereotyping, half my family is Christian, the other half Muslim and they get along just fine. Why is it that the one thing that should unite all people is the one thing responsible for wars and genocide and other atrocities? The threat of Iran nuking Israel is a terrifying thing because it will mean the ultimate destruction of life as we know it. Who's right? Who's wrong? Every religion thinks they're the one. What if it was the Hindus instead? You can quote your Bible, your Qur'an, your Torah or whatever holy book you have and you still have the same result: We are right and all others are wrong. And why is there dissension even among Christians, Jews and Muslims? You think al-Qaeda is crazy, have you heard a sermon by Fred Phelps? The Pope saying Catholicism is the only way? Those crazy Scientologists (forgive me for the slur, I meant the Xenu believing Scientologists) The monks who self-immolate. I realize this isn't much of a question. My mom is a Christian and my dad is Muslim and the one thing I loved about my dad is that he encouraged us to find what's right for me. And I still haven't found it yet. Is anyone else out there lost too? Can I just believe in a higher power without having to give it a name? Am I being too naive?
