Were you brought up in the country? if so, do you always make sure gates are shut?

I was born and raised in the country and I always shut gates. Two reasons, to keep the animals inside (and the predators outside) and because I felt protective of my land. Plus, an open gate seems to invite trouble if you ask me. I can't imagine why your neighbor leaves it open-must be a city boy !
